I Hate My Business Cards. What Are My Options?
Share
There are a few different versions of hating your business cards, and they have different fixes. Figure out which one you have.
“The information is wrong now”
New title, new number, new company, new website. The card is a lie and you feel it every time you hand one over.
Options: reprint (costs money, and it'll be wrong again next time), cross it out with a pen (people do this; it never looks good), or move to something you can update — a digital card behind a QR code or an NFC card, where the physical object stays and you edit the details.
“The design is embarrassing”
Made in a hurry, by a cousin, in 2019.
Options: a good designer and a small print run — you don't need 500, and a beautiful heavy card is still a genuinely great object. Or step off paper entirely so the thing people see is your profile, which you can make look good for free and change any time.
“I keep running out”
Usually the sign that you're actually networking a lot, which is a good problem.
Options: order in bulk and accept the reprint cycle, or use something that can't run out. One tap card or wristband shares your profile an unlimited number of times.
“They just get thrown away”
The honest one. You watch people put it in a pocket and you know exactly where it ends up.
Options: nothing fixes this on paper, because the failure isn't the card — it's that nothing happened while you were standing there. The fix is a method where the exchange completes in the moment: a tap, a QR scan, or watching them save your number before you part.
“I feel silly handing over a piece of card”
Fair. In some rooms it lands as traditional and classy; in others it lands as dated.
Options: read the room and carry both. A tap in a creative or nightlife setting, paper in a boardroom that expects it.
The cheapest fix, honestly
If you're not ready to spend anything: make a free link-in-bio page, generate a QR code for it, and keep it as a photo in your phone's favorites. That solves “out of date” and “runs out” for nothing.
If you want it to happen without the other person opening their camera, that's what NFC does — our Smart Card and our woven fabric wristband both include a QR backup, and neither ever goes out of date because you change the profile, not the product.
